November Mutt: Buttercup

November 3, 2015

Buttercup is an adorable Beagle mix pup born 11/15/14 and weighing 20 pounds.  She will not get much bigger when she if full grown.  She is mostly Beagle in her personality, but may have some pointer or retriever mixed in her gene pool as well......that might explain her beautiful red and white coat and the "freckles" she has on her nose and legs.  She is an adorable little girl!!!

Sadly, Buttercup spent her first months of life in an outside kennel along side her owners hunting dogs.  Fortunately, she was surrendered and has come leaps and bounds in the personality department.  She is everything a puppy should be ...friendly, energetic, loving and best of all loyal.  She seems to gravitate towards children, but is a little shy at first, so a home with children over the age of 12 will be best for Buttercup.

She is finally learning that humans can be kind, but is still a little reserved when she first meets a new person...but it only takes her a few minutes to be her new best friend.  She likes to meet new people when they come down to her level and let her do the approaching....this may be why she likes children so much,,,,they are already on her level!!  She is catching on quickly to house training, and  kept her kennel very clean while at the shelter.  She adores having her ears and chest rubbed, and will do just about anything to have those ears scratched!!

Buttercup does well with and likes other dogs.  In fact, she will need a canine companion in her new home.  She will need a similar sized dog friend who can be her cheerleader, teacher, guide and coach as she learns about the world around her and as her confidence continues to build.   She loves to play and is very gentle while doing so.  She likes to vocalize while playing with her canine buddies, but is otherwise a good girl about unnecessary barking.

If you are looking for a small beagle mix, with a little bit of mystery to her, this pup may be perfect for you!!!  She is a blank slate and just waiting to be taught about the world and how it works.  If you can offer her a a forever home and meet the minimum requirements mentioned above, please fill out an application and request her by name.....she can't wait to meet you!!!!

You can save animals like this one by becoming a foster home for a dog in need! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please check out our information about fostering on our website: http://www.muttsmatterrescue.com/foster_faq.html
