Summer is winding down, vacations are over and the kids are heading back to school. Our featured Mutt this month is a happy little guy named Bailey.
We believe Bailey is around 5 yrs. old and is a Chihuahua mixed with Dachshund and/or Jack Russell Terrier. He came to MMR from one of our shelter partners in Harrisonburg, VA. He was very stressed in the shelter environment and was not doing well there, after having been surrendered by the only home he had ever known.
Bailey was surrendered because, after years of being house trained, he began to urinate in the house, and the landlord became upset. His family surrendered him rather than trying to find out if his behavior was due to a medical condition (which it was). Bailey has been treated for his UTI and has fully recovered. He no longer urinates in the house and is house trained. Bailey has also been neutered and is up to date on all vaccines, is heart worm negative and completely healthy!
Now that Bailey has received medical treatment and lots of TLC in his foster home, he has really come out of his shell and has blossomed from the scared dog at the shelter who was so timid and fearful around little children and other dogs. Bailey now does well with other dogs in his foster home and with older, respectful children. Preference with be given to a family that has experience with the Breed traits of Chihuahuas and Dachshunds, and are older, respectful (or no) children.
Bailey loves to go for walks and does great on his leash. He also loves the life of a couch potato and to cuddle up close for some snuggle time. He is a very laid back, low key boy who really only barks when he is scared. He enjoys meeting other dogs, and needs the companionship of another low key, laid back canine in the home. MMR encourages approved, potential adopters to arrange a meet up in Bailey's foster home prior to adoption.
If you like a little bit of attitude, and enjoy taking life at a slower, quieter pace, please fill out an application to begin the approval process. Bailey may just be the guy for you!!
My adoption fee is $300, which covers the cost of routine vetting, rabies and distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, spay/neuter surgery, heartworm testing, my microchip, monthly heartworm prevention, monthly flea/tick prevention, and any transport costs if applicable.

You can save dogs like Bailey by becoming a foster home for a dog in need! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please check out our information about fostering on our website:
MMR covers the vet care, food, and tools to get started. You supply the love. Fostering saves lives. Sometimes a foster home is the only thing standing between life and death.
